The club assisted the city of Des Moines and other organizations in providing landscaping that included 3,000 trees and shrubs, sod, and tons of fertilizer for the Fort of Des Moines.
The Fort Des Moines Provisional Army Officer Training School was a military base and training facility established in 1901. The base trained African American officers for the U.S. Army during World War I and was where women first began training for US Army service in 1942 as part of the Women’s Army Corps
